Needing to remove 14 billion tons per year of Carbon Dioxide from the earth's atmosphere per year, each year into the foreseeable future, while receiving US$35 for each ton of Carbon Dioxide removed and sequestered makes the Carbon Capture and Sequester Industry potentially a US$490 billion/ year Global Industry

The Carbon Capture and Sequestration Industry is Green Fields to say the least. Hence the opportunities for nations who start auditing and documenting their carbon  sequestration assets early and will be enormous to say the least.

IF A NATION WAS TO SECURE JUST 1% OF THE GLOBAL CARBON CARBON CAPTURE & SEQUESTRATION MARKET IT WOULD ADD AN EXTRA US$5 BILLION TO ITS PRESENT GDP.

A FIVE YEAR STRATEGY

BACKGROUND

Carbon Capture and Sequestration is not just about developing high tech machines, capable of sucking millions of tons of carbon out of the earth’s atmosphere each year. At the moment this method costs industries more than US$100/ton to remove and store carbon.

The most efficient way to remove carbon from the atmosphere is with a tree. So we can expect in the near future as impacts of climate change worsen the global community will look to expanding forests as a cost effective means to remove carbon from the atmosphere. There may not be enough forests in the world to remove 14 billion tons of carbon /year, however forests and other plant life, both on land and in the sea will need to remove at least 3-7 billion tons of carbon /year, if the global community is to have a chance of fending off the worst of climate change.

So countries must see their forests and other concentration of high carbon up-take plant life, both on land and at sea, as national assets, which will soon generate hundreds of millions of dollars of income per year for the nation’s economy.

However developing a highly profitable and sustainable Carbon Sequestration landscape or ecosystem, within a nation, takes considerable thought, knowledge, research and planning. Those who rush into will surely lose millions per year from bad implementation and management practices.

For every nation, no matter how small, or how poor, it maybe today, creating an effective ‘Carbon Sequestration Ecosystem’, will deliver at least another US$ 100 million - 1 billion to the country’s economy while creating thousands of well-paying jobs, by 2025. 

Many nations may not have oil, minerals or any other naturally occurring resources or assets. However I can assure you, unless your country is 100% desert, with no access to the ocean, a ‘Carbon Sequestration Ecosystem,’ will be the best way to increase your national wealth.

THE GEOENGINEERING RESEARCH ALLIANCE NATIONAL STRATEGY

Governments need to start preparing today. It will surely be a grave and costly mistake for any country, which waits until the global community finally announces a 'Global Price on Carbon', as it will then take another 3 years for that country, to properly audit and document all its 'Carbon Sequestration Assets' before its in a position to monetize the assets.

The GRA is initiating a program to,

  • Create a Global Database of all Forests and Eco systems.

  • what elements of your land and sea based ecosystems comprise your asset​

  • how to catalog your asset ready for monetizing it

  • how to bring the asset into your national budgets

  • Gaining Finance for expanding your forests

  • Private and public sector ownership of existing assets

  • private and public sector ownership of future assets

  • How to nurture, protect and grow your 'Carbon Sequestration Asset.' dealing with such sub-topics as

  • researching which native trees, shrubs, grasses, mangroves, sea grasses, etc are going to deliver the country maximum income, without destroying the local environment, food production or livelihoods.

  • ending deforestation, as each hectare of forest you let be cut down costs the nation millions in future income.

  • preparing plans to plant more Sequestration Assets, on land, in rivers and in the surrounding ocean

  • the role of investors

  • integration of local communities into the overall plan

  • etc.

THE WAY FORWARD

Each Nation that wants to begin auditing and appraising their Indigenous Forests Assets in conjunction with the GRA simply needs to appoint a contact person who the GRA can work with.

The reason the GRA is creating these Indigenous Forest Appraisals & Database is because they will be essential for our presentation to the United Nations regards have Indigenous Forest included in the Global ETS Program.
